Tata Steel plans phase II expansion programme at Kalinganagar

Tata Steel has started work on its phase II of Kalinganagar steel plant in Duburi in Odisha. The project involves setting up of a 2.2 million tpa cold rolled mill which will produce kin panels for car outer bodies from its newest plant, helping it retain leadership among domestic suppliers to auto and white goods sectors. It will also produce steel of tensile strength as high as 12,000 MPa (mega pascal) and plates of 18-70 metre wide and up to 3 mm in thickness. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 235,000 million.
