Odisha government has given approval to the mega highway project to connect Tangi to Digha in Bengal. The project is yet to get environmental clearance as it goes through forest and rivers. The bids for development could begin by March 2022.
The project was modified following reservations of environmentalists over a long bridge proposed over of Chilika Lake. The crucial road project would originate from Tangi in Khordha district instead of Gopalpur in Ganjam district. As per road design, all major towns would be by-passed.
