NTPC Ltd is planning to set up stage III 2×660 MW coal based thermal power project in Talcher in Angul district of Orissa. Land required for the project is available at is existing premises which houses stage I & Stage II of the power plant (4 x 60 MW and 2 x 110 MW). Around 6 acres of govt land near Samal barrage is to be acquired and 220 acres of land for right of way for pipeline is also to be acquired.
As of February 2018, the project is in planning stage. In September 2018, the company’s board has approved investment of Rs. 97,850 for the 1320 MW coal based project.
